Open House X Fundraiser (Present in the World)

WUSHIREN Theatre is entering a new creative chapter—a studio-warming, a beginning. On 29th March, we open our space with the hope that it will become fertile ground for artistic exploration and inquiry. In June 27-29, we take our first step onto the stage with I am finally in love with the world, an original production.

As we build towards this milestone, we are launching our open house, followed by a series of workshops at a later date to raise funds for our work—work that we believe in deeply. We are grateful to have already received the NAC P&P grant, but we are also fundraising to bridge the remaining costs

In a world where many forces pull us in different directions, to be truly present is a radical act. Present In The World begins with an open house, and follows up with a workshop series dedicated to cultivating awareness—of our bodies, our minds, our beings. It is an invitation to ground ourselves in the current moment, to listen deeply, and to reconnect with the wholeness of who we are.

Cost: Pay from the heart

As we are aiming to raise funds for our project in June, we have a recommendation for tiers of donation:
Tier 1: $35
Tier 2: $55
Tier 3: $100
Tier 4: Others

We recommend donations of 35 dollars and above. Any amount goes into the cost of our production and rehearsal spaces and allows us to provide fair compensation for our artists. Donations of 75 dollars and above contribute greatly to allowing us to realise our vision for our upcoming projects and 150 and above allows us to continue incubating future works.

If you are a student / No income source or find it hard to make any sort of donation, please do not feel pressured to do so. There are other ways to support our work and we warmly welcome anything that you are gracious enough to extend.

  • Julian, a former medical student turned theatre practitioner, once saw "being present" as abstract and mythical—until he learned to experience it firsthand. He will share exercises to demystify presence, shedding a practical lens on how it can profoundly enhance performance, relationships and love for life.

  • How do we remain? In this poem-manifesto-meditation, Kia Yee/ kyatos dwells, stays, persists in one place. After years of rushing herself to start and to go on, she asks: what can happen when we remain, when we don't run to the next thing? What kind of dreaming and re-prophesying can take place by being in the here and now? Come dwell with this artist, poet, and founder of zone, a cross-disciplinary theatre company.

  • Sound has the power to bring us into the present moment, helping us feel more connected to ourselves and the world around us. In this session, we will explore the relationship between sound and silence; using vibrations to clear the mind, restore balance, and deepen body awareness. The session will also include a live, improvised movement and music exchange by artists Gayle and Ranice, inviting you to experience listening in a whole new way.

  • What calls us to move, and what emerges from that unseen place? In this intimate sharing, Ranice reflects on her journey from away from Theatre and back to it, navigating the tension between performing and being. Through personal anecdotes and embodied exploration, she delves into the nature of craft, understanding the inner I/eye, and the impulses that led to the creation of WUSHIREN Theatre. Join us in this intersection of movement, philosophy, and identity.

  • How can the principles of Taiji shape theatre-making? In this work demonstration, the WUSHIREN team shares the core tenets that define our practice and pedagogy. Join us for an exclusive insight into our artistic process.
