Our Team
Ranice Tay
As the founder of WUSHIREN Theatre, Ranice is on a journey to create visceral, interdisciplinary works that integrates theatre, movement, and martial arts to delve deeply into the essence of being.
Her notable artistic collaborations include: touring with award-winning theatre company U-Theatre (Taiwan) in 墨具五色 2.0, and creating work for Esplanade, Scarlet Mela Festival of the Arts, and The ArtGround. She is also a world-medalist for traditional Chen-Style Taiji, and has represented the Singapore Traditional Wushu Elite Team in a portfolio of international competitions.
Driven by the search for self-alignment, Ranice is currently developing ‘Cloud Body’, an approach to theatre making that is rooted in the embodiment of Taiji, to nurture access to a state of profound presence, and the intuitive expression of craft.
Julian Low
Julian co-founded WUSHIREN in order to comprehend the inherent intelligence of the body through theatre, and to reclaim the sense of self that we humans have.
As a theatre practitioner, his primary line of inquiry includes: What impedes oneself from expressing fully and freely? How can we propel the individual to live in the now by overcoming predisposed habits? And so what? How can these questions be understood?
As a person, Julian is moved by the spectrum of human experiences that he has preciously witnessed — as an ex-medical scholar, video-maker, teacher and arts practitioner. He is inspired by the beauty of being alive and aims to become a potent observer of the world and of himself.
