《十》The Axis (2023)

A visceral performance that merges the visual display of Taijiquan with the storytelling elements of theatre. Using Chinese characters as inspiration, the performance contemplates one’s own memories, the meaning of heritage, and the path of life.

Theatre meets the ancient craft of taiji in《十》The Axis, a sublime and soulful storytelling experience about reaching deep within ourselves.

“Teacher, why do we begin always to our left?”

“Because that is the way the sun rises.”

The world is very quiet today.

And so, Ti picks up a brush and draws.

One line wide as the horizon, and a line tall as the sky. Then another. And another. And another. Until the earth is stained with ink.
